According to the newest revision, the two names should belong to the
following species with lateral line at the midline of the dark lateral band.

Crossocheilus siamensis  (Smith, 1931)


is a name by Banarescu for
Epalzeorhynchos siamensis Smith, 1931

Its holotype is
USNM 090302 Epalzeorhynchus siamensis
with lateral line at the lower edge of the dark lateral band between dorsal and ventral fins but at the midline of the latter on caudal peduncle.

Its alleged holotype or syntype according to Roberts is
RMNH 2640 Crossocheilus oblongus.

It is by far not certain that the alcohol-preserved RMNH 2640 and the stuffed RMNH D1755 are conspecific. The stuffed specimens are likely to be painted, at least the dark lateral band. According to Roberts, other species are painted too. Original handwritten description by Kuhl and van Hasselt is retyped

Comparison of Epalzeorhynchos siamensis and Crossocheilus oblongus
rectangular lower lip, darker band between eye and snout tip, three large oval pores between eye and mouth trilobed lower lip, snout equally dark between eye and snout tip as on its dorsum, three large oval pores between eye and mouth not observable
