TURTLE “Caretta-Caretta”

The marine areas of ​​Kyparissia Gulf, as well as the southern part of the coast are the favorite laying sites of Caretta-caretta turtle across the entire Mediterranean zone; these locations are included in the European list of “NATURA 2000” protected areas.

The association “ARCHELON” [ with the support of Avlona community and under the aegis of the ‘Life-Nature’ EU Program ] aims at highlighting the ecological importance of the region and its particular significance for the survival of  “Caretta-Caretta” species which is under extinction; Archelon association founded an environmental, scientific station located in Agiannaki, next to Elaia community, inside the building of the old railway station, as well as an information kiosk on the beach of Kaloneri, where visitors can see exhibited sections referring to geography, traditional local professions, various ecosystems, sea turtles and of course actions of the association regarding their protection.
