The pure soul of Samothraki
They say that Samothraki is a strange, unique, mysterious island and that whoever goes there experiences, in one way or another, its mystery. Whoever goes to Samothraki has a story to narrate. Stories which sound unreal and vague but at the same time, you feel thrilled and to go there to discover the island.
Arriving in Samothraki, usually, you see passengers carry huge bags of hanging blankets and pots. Hold wooden music instruments and poetry collections. When they pass by in front of you, you hear the sounds from their hippie necklaces. You walk around and there are random people laying around in the streets with their friends, with one hand holding a beer and with the other a cigarette. If you don’t see this thing then you are on a wrong island.
Samothraki is an island in northern part of Greece with 2500 inhabitants. The wild nature of the island and the history of the ancient Karivian mysteries create this dominant energy of the area that everyone feels but barely can someone describe r explain. Fans of Sacred Geography, this mysterious island is one of the most powerful energy sites in Greece and Europe.
The island is a pole of attraction for those who enjoy alternative tourism. Samothraki, like most of the islands of the North Aegean, is green. There is the imposing mountain Saos, which means “moon.” Most of the beaches are with stones and pebbles. However, Pahia Ammos beach, in the southern part of the island, is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Greece with breathtaking views of Imbros and Tenedos.
Goats sometimes go down to the beach, and often those who park their cars under the trees, to their way back they see goats on their cars chewing leaves from the trees. Vatos is another sandy beach, but access is only available by boat or in case you like mountain climbing you can go under the guidance of an experienced shepherd Many climbers have been lost to Saos.
The dozens of small pools of cold water formed by waterfalls are a hidden treasure in Samothraki. The path to the treasure requires you to walk a lot, climb and carry with you as much few objects as possible. A backpack is ideal. Many campers live around the waterfall lakes for days. As you climb higher on the mountain, it is less crowded but much more beautiful.
To the local café every morning you can enjoy Greek coffee but after the afternoon until the next morning everyone is enjoying themselves with ouzo, cold beer and meze (small traditional dishes). Chora (the city of the island) is beautiful, hidden in the mountain, “sees” and “observes” everything. Chora is not built from the side the sea, just like all the villages on the islands that were built in this way so that the pirates will not see them. Stone houses, cobbled streets and cars are forbidden to run through the alleys.
Samothraki is an island with a history that goes back thousands of years ago. The Winged Victory of Samothrace, one of the best-known ancient Greek statues, was found in 1863 on the island, and now it is hosted at the Louvre Museum. In its forests, the Kavirian Mysteries, occult ceremonies that have not yet been fully elucidated. It is said that to one of those mysteries, Philip II and Olympiada made the conception of Alexander the Great.
Samothraki is one of the few magical things that you can experience once in a lifetime. Over there you forget who you are, where you come from and where you are. It is you and all the elements of nature. The sun, the light, the water, the stones and the soil. You find another reason to feel happy and blessed. Only those who have been there and only those who will visit Samothraki will ever understand it.
