Richard Hammond the name synonymous with Top Gear was seriously injured in a car crash on 20 September 2006. He was piloting a jet powered car “Vampire” dragster which is theoretically capable of travelling at speeds of up to 370mph (The Bugatti Veyron tops at 250 mph) at the former RAF Elvington airfield near York. As everyone knows things did not work out right and Hammond ended up in a near fatal crash.
