Sarah Michelle Gellar apologizes after fat-shaming accusations

Sarah Michelle Gellar says she wasn’t attempting to fat-shame anyone with her recent Thanksgiving post about overeating.

“It’s come to my attention that some people think I was ‘fat shaming’ with this post,” Gellar, 41, wrote in the post’s comments section. “That could not be further from my intentions. I love Thanksgiving and unfortunately my eyes are often bigger than my stomach, and I tend to eat so much I make myself sick.”

Over the weekend, Gellar posted several sexy snaps showing off her thin body with a caption warning herself not to overeat this holiday season. It wasn’t well received with many followers suggesting she was fat-shaming those who choose to indulge.

“This was a joking reminder to myself not to do that,” Gellar added in her apology. “I’m terribly sorry that people were offended by my attempt at humor. Any one that knows me, knows I would never intentionally ‘shame’ any one on any basis. I am a champion of all people.”

Gellar didn’t remove the post or edit the caption following the blunder.

Her written apology earned her over 2,000 likes and many responses. Some people even came to her defense.

One person insisted, “You do not need to apologize for taking pride in your health and body and your physical journey – especially not to other women who should all be supportive of each other. Not one thing you did was about anyone but yourself.”
