On another last-minute stroke of madness, we decided to take cable car to the top of Mount Lycabettus. This wasn’t part of our original itinerary, but upon witnessing the beauty of Athens in person, I heartily recommend a visit to Mount Lycabettus. You just shouldn’t skip it!

Beautiful white-washed church of Agii Isidori was the first to greet us from the top of the mountain.

From there, we walked to the viewpoint and saw miles and miles of concrete jungle. There are just so much to appreciate it’s hard to decide where to start.

A few of Acropolis by the hilltop surely takes the cake when it comes to the quintessential Athens skyline shot. Seeing it high from up here brings an entirely different perspective to the historic monument.

The entire place allowed us almost 360-degree look at the entire metropolitan. Greenery dots every corner of the city, and the details in houses just strike you as you slowly observe them.

Then the magical sunset begins… and the clouds begin to burst into colors. A captivating sight which just never gets old, every single second was memorable, showing the sky dispersing into different shapes and shades.

And here’s the golden egg yolk showing its last appearance before it descends down the mountain far in the distance.

As the sun goes to sleep, the city slowly wakes up.

Acropolis lit up the dark city, imposing its past glories to everyone who visits this historic city. Gradually, Athens begins to turn into a sea of billion stars. Even after dark, the sky never ceases to amaze with hues of red and dark blue.

We were supposed to head to airport at around 7 pm, but we stayed all throughout ’til 9.30 pm because the view just got better and better. But hey, with such an amazing view of Athens’ city skyline, it’s a risk worth gambling!

(Thankfully we made it on time to the airport though! Absolutely no regrets…)
