C-130 unit gets a new bird with an old history
Senior Airman Richard Herling (left) and Tech. Sgt. Kevin Sanderson perform maintenance on a C-130 Hercules at an air base in Southwest Asia. The newly acquired aircraft, known as "Patches," is a Vietnam-era C-130E, tail number 62-1817, with quite a history. Airman Herling and Sergeant Sanderson are C-130 crew chiefs with the 746th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Unit and are deployed from Pope Air Force Base, N.C.
