Description
The reverse of a helmet worn by the pilot of an Australian C-130 Lockheed Hercules aircraft flying to Kandahar. The patch on the helmet is decorated with three penguins and the reads "SMILE AND WAVE BOYS. SMILE AND WAVE", a reference to the film Madagascar. One of a series of photographic studies taken by the Australian War Memorial's Official Artist Ben Quilty, who travelled to Afghanistan with the Australian Defence Force in October 2011.
