Diagnosis: This very common larval type has a modal count of 30 dorsal and anal fin rays. M. setifer has fewer fin rays; in the range of 27-29 dorsal and anal rays, and M. hispidus has more; in the range of 31-34 dorsal rays and 31-33 anal rays. (PE)
