General Information: Tiny, very shy and very colourful cyprinid, once believed to be endangered, but now recognised to originate in more localities than originally thought.
Tank Requirements: Even though very small, males can and will fight so a minimum of an 18" tank is needed. Tank should be densely planted and preferably have a dark substrate. The more they are easily able to hide; the more you will actually see them.
Diet Requirements: Will eat dried flake food, but as they tend to stay in the bottom and mid-levels, diet should preferably be small live/frozen foods: artemia, daphnia etc.
Compatibility: Companions should be chosen with care as this fish is so tiny it is likely to be eaten in a general community. Goes well with other diminutive species such as Danio Choprae and Microdevario.
Recommendations: Do not mix with Danio Erythromicron due to risk of hybrid offspring.
Common Problems: Newly imported fish can be in poor condition and difficult to persuade to eat. Live foods are the best option in this case.

Sexing: Males are more colourful than females and tend to be smaller. Females plumper than males and have a dark ventral mark when ready to spawn.
Breeding: Egg-layers who will spawn relatively easily in a suitable environment. Provide spawning mops or moss. Once eggs are present remove the mops or the adults as they will eat the eggs and fry.
