The Guppy red blond from the species Poecilia reticulata from South America is a very beautiful brightly colored color variant of the incredibly popular million fish in aquaristics. There certainly aren't many aquarists who haven't had guppies before, as this beautiful lively group fish is considered ideal for beginners to the aquarium hobby.
Guppies are known for their strong desire to reproduce (hence the name million fish), for this reason we offer the Guppies red blond here in the store as a pure male group. If you want to breed, you can also find female Guppies here. Guppies are very sociable and should not be kept alone, but they don't miss anything in single-sex groups - and so you nicely avoid the problem of mass reproduction, for which the Guppy is so well known.
Guppies red blond are great colored - in males the enlarged dorsal fin is as fiery bright red as the caudal fin and most of the rest of the body. Only the belly is silvery to golden in color, creating a nice contrast to the intense red of the reddish blonde guppy. The males grow to about 7-8 cm in length. Their anal fin is transformed into a mating organ, the so-called gonopodium.
In live-bearing toothcarps, to which guppies belong, about 20 live young are born per litter. Guppies can interbreed with the Endler Guppies, which are very closely related to them, so these two Poecilia species should not be kept together - the hybrids from this mating are themselves fertile again. With other peaceful aquarium fish that tolerate hard water, guppies are very good to keep. If you have both sexes of guppies in the aquarium, you must expect offspring. Poecilia reticulata eat their young, but especially in well planted aquariums it can quickly become too many fish.
A socialization with rather predatory small fish such as tetras can help to keep the flood of offspring in check - or you just decide for a pure male group. Guppies can be kept well with robust, well-reproducing dwarf shrimp for hard water and also with the somewhat larger Amano shrimp and fan shrimp . Crayfish, on the other hand, can injure aquarium fish by pinching their fins. Also, the curious guppies are sometimes considered prey by crayfish.
Guppies like to take food from the water surface. In addition to flake food and granulated food, they also like to eat frozen food, live food and they also nibble on algae deposits and decaying plant remains. They like soft, scalded vegetables and green food.
Poecilia reticulata lives in nature in habitats with medium to hard water, including coastal waters with light brackish water. The temperature in the aquarium should be 22-28 °C, a heater is not absolutely necessary in an aquarium with guppies.
Our food recommendation: The fragrant NatureHolic Guppyfeed was tailor-made for the needs of guppies and other viviparous fish in the aquarium. In addition to high-quality animal ingredients, it also contains vegetable components that benefit guppies & co. The soft granules protect the sensitive mouth of the viviparous from injuries caused by hard food grains and provide the fish with a natural feeding experience.
Our plant recommendation: For planting, use NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
