Her daughter's looks may fill Kate Moss with envy... but you should have seen her gran!

Agyness Deyn's mum Lorraine says her supermodel daughter has inherited her nan Agnes Cook's off-the-wall style - as well as her porcelain skin and perfect pins.

Lorraine said: "My mum was a real beauty and she was really into fashion.

"She used to work as a window dresser at C&A in Manchester. She was a teenager during the war when there wasn't much money about so she used to try to do different things with her clothes.

"She used to wear her cardigan back to front so that the buttons fastened down the back, just so she'd look a bit different.

"Both Agy and her sister Emily are really into fashion. They have their own style, and like to look a bit different. But my mum was trying to do that in the 1940s!"

Agyness, the 26-year-old darling of fashion designers and glossy magazines the world over and worth an estimated £2million, was born Laura Hollins.

Her modelling agency asked her to choose another name because there were several models called Laura.

So she picked Agnes after her beloved grandmother and added the "y" and "s" to make it different. The Deyn comes from her mother's maiden name, Dean.

Looking at treasured family album photographs, Lorraine smiled: "My mum had gorgeous long legs just like Agy.

"The picture of her in the rollerskates was taken outside her parents' house. She used to love roller-skating and she met my dad at Altrincham ice rink. My parents were both good-looking people. My dad Bill was in the merchant navy. Mum never modelled but was a really good-looking woman. You can see the resemblance between her, me, Agy and Emily."

And her grandparents Bill and Agnes didn't just give Agy her stunning looks - they were also responsible for launching her modelling career.

Lorraine explained: "When Agy was about 15 my mum and dad sent pictures of her to Bliss magazine. Those were the first pictures Agy ever had published.

"She still had braces on her teeth and they liked that because she looked like a typical teenager."

Grandmother Agnes doted on all three of her grandchildren - pilot Greg, 29, Agy and student Emily, 21.

Lorraine recalled: "Even as a baby, Agy was stunning. When my mum pushed her out in the pram, people used to stop her all the time to tell her what a beautiful baby she was. Mum loved it. My mum loved all the grandchildren."

Sadly, both Agy's grandparents died before she made it big as a model.

Lorraine said: "It really makes my heart ache that they didn't live to see Agy's success. She would have been so proud of all three of them."

Despite Agy's runaway success as the model of the moment, she is still friends with the same gang she hung out with as a teenager.

Lorraine said: "Agy keeps her feet on the ground. She has become more than a model, she has become a kind of icon. She is very patriotic. She loves anything British, anything to do with the Queen and she loves London. She is based in New York now and it is great when we get to go over and see her. It was her birthday a few weeks ago and I bought her some Union flag mugs, which she loves.

"It's surreal but I'm not starstruck by it. Every person is special in their own way. Agy has come along at a time when she has struck a chord with everyone."

And Agy has made sure her family and old pals are involved in her success.

She has been good friends with fashion designer Henry Holland since they were teenagers and Lorraine said: "We all went to London last week for Henry's fashion show. Agy doesn't do many shows now but she did Henry's and it was wonderful. We had a great few days with Agy's friends. They call me Mama Deyn.

"We were reminiscing about when Agy and Emily were little. Like the night before Agy's first Holy Communion when I ragrolled her hair so she had beautiful ringlet curls."

Lorraine's taste in music is quite different from her young daughter - as you'd expect - and it's already become a standing joke for Radio 1 DJ Grimmy.

Lorraine said: "Agy is mates with Grimmy and she was going on his Radio 1 show. So I said to her, 'Get him to play a request for me, play Il Divo'. So she asked him, and they joked about it. I don't think Il Divo is on the Radio 1 playlist!

"A few months later me and Agy were in the car when Grimmy's show was on, so she texted him and asked him to play Il Divo for me again.

"He played Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah instead and said it was formothers and daughters everywhere.

So when we got to Henry's fashion show, who should be on the front row but Grimmy? I marched up to him and said, 'Anyway, what's wrong with Il Divo?' We had a good laugh."

Speaking to nurse Lorraine, it is easy to see where Agy gets her down-to-earth attitude.

Lorraine said: "Agy does treat us, but it's strange because I'm her mum and I want to be the one looking after her. When we went to New York she did surprise us all and put us up in a lovely hotel. But when we go out for dinner as a family there is always a fight for the bill at the end.

"All my kids are generous and none of us would expect Agy to pay all the time just because she's famous.

"She is not extravagant.

She's not one for expensive jewellery or clothes. Of course she likes to wear designer clothes but she is just as happy shopping in Primark or H&M as she is with the big names."

Agy's sister Emily is studying Interactive Arts in Manchester and has designed some fabrics and made a few short films.

Lorraine said: "My parents would have been so proud of all my children. Agy is a successful model, Greg has a great career as a pilot and Emily is well on her way to a successful career. I really admire my children as they all had the guts to go out and go for whatever they wanted.

"I just love being a mum. You want your children to have the world but still have good values and good beliefs while they are having fun.

"I am very blessed with all three of my children. We are the best of friends and they all have a wonderful relationship with each other. I am a proud mum."
