It’s been three years since Nadya Suleman and her octuplets became a household name in Orange County.
The eight babies – Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Josiah, Jeremiah, and Makai – were born on Jan. 26, 2009, averaging a little over 1 pound each.
Suleman, a La Habra resident who has six other children in addition to the octuplets, conceived the babies using in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The pregnancy itself was quite the scandal, and in fact resulted in her fertility doctor, Michael Kamrava, losing his license in July of 2011 when the California Medical Board decided that implanting 12 embryos was an “extreme” departure from standard care.
Once the octuplets were born, it was nothing short of a circus surrounding the woman most people refer to as Octomom. She has been very public about her financial woes and raises a few eyebrows trying to make money for rent – like hosting huge yard sales outside her home, promoting PETA campaigns, and even talking to adult film stars.
She has appeared on such television talk shows as Oprah and The View, and was recently interviewed by Dr. Drew about being in foreclosure.
