Famous Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci donates numbered bib from her 'perfect score' Olympics to Lausanne museum

06 November 2014

Famous Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci has donated to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne her numbered bib - 73- from the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, when she scored the first perfect 10 in the history of gymnastics.  Comaneci wore the bib on her competition leotard when she got the perfect score.

Comaneci is the first gymnast who received a perfect score of ten in an Olympic competition. The scoring board at the time was not even programmed to display 10.00, so her score officially displayed as 1.00.   “There’s no better place to exhibit the number I wore at Montreal,” said Nadia Comaneci.

Nadia Elena Comaneci was born on November 12, 1961, in Onesti, Romania. At the age of 6, she was spotted doing cart wheels by the well-known Romanian gymnastic coach, Bela Karolyi. He and his wife Marta were looking for young children to train for the Romanian National Junior Team. Read more about her here.
