The Plain White T’s are at Wrigley so here's 'Hey There Delilah' if they wrote it about the Cubs

It’s a song about love, and baseball.

A whole mess of celebrities attended Game 5 of the World Series, including the Plain White T’s.

In case you don’t remember them, these are the guys famous for “Hey There Delilah,” the song that’s about to be stuck in your head again.

That song has its roots in Chicago. The Delilah in question met lead singer Tom Higgenson at a bar and he told her he’d write a song about her, and that’s exactly what he did. Delilah DiCrescenzo is a professional runner and the song was written for her despite the fact that she was in a committed relationship at the time it blew up. In 2013, ESPN caught up with her:

It was flattering, though. The song is catchy, melodic. It's very romantic. It means something to everybody -- especially for anybody who ever yearned for someone. But it's so specific. It mentions New York City. It names me. It's named after me.

When we saw the Plain White T’s were on the list in attendance for Game 5, we couldn’t resist.

Without further ado, here is SB Nation’s rendition of “Hey There Delilah,” dedicated to the Chicago Cubs.

Update: Special thanks to Ryan Walton of True Blue LA for singing his rendition for us!

Lyrics:

Hey there Chicago what’s it like to win at Wrigley

I’m right here in your stadium and the outfield looks so pretty

Oh yes it do

And Cleveland’s couldn’t take that win from you

You know it's true

Ohhh we know that you’ll win three (x4)

Know that you’ll win three

Hey there Delilah I know times are getting hard just

But just believe me, girl

Someday I’ll pay the cover at this Wrigleyville bar

We’ll have it good

We’ll have the life we knew we Kerry Wood

Kyle Schwarber’s good

Ohhh please buy a frank for me (x4)

Home plate can seem pretty far

But they’ve got planes and trains cars

I’ll take a walk for you if I had no other way

Our friends would all make fun of us

But we’ll just laugh along because we know Joe Maddon made us feel this way

Delilah I can promise you that by the time that we get through the woooooorld will never ever be the saaaaaaaame, baseball’s to blame

Hey there Chicago

You be good and don’t you miss me

Been 100 years since we last won

But I hope we’ll make history like we do

You know it’s all because of you

We can do whatever we want to

Hey there, Chicago here’s to you

This one’s for you
