Sarah Michelle Gellar

Sarah Michelle Gellar might be known for her bright smile, but it didn't come without some struggles, as the actress revealed in a new update.

Gellar took to social media to comment on a serious surgery she had recently, giving the public some advice on how to avoid ending up in her situation.

She posted a photo of herself with a big smile on Oct. 4, writing, "Last month, after years of being what is known as an aggressive brusher, I had to have dental surgery. A gum graft to be specific."

"Now I’ve had natural child birth, and this surgery took me down. So now to be smiling this big… is a big deal. That’s all," she continued, before telling fans, "Oh and take it from me, brush gently."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, gum grafting surgery involves putting new tissue on areas where there are recessed gums and exposed teeth roots, and it is one of the most common types of dental surgeries in the U.S.

David Boreanaz, who co-starred in Buffy the Vampire Slayer with Gellar, praised the star's smile, writing, "Nice Fangs❤️🔥."

Someone else shared a similarly witty joke, saying, "I'm also a gums slayer. 😢."

One of Gellar's followers who works in dental medicine wrote in the comments, "I'm a dental hygienist and gum grafts are no joke!! The recovery is painful. So happy everything went well and you're able to smile big now! 💕."

Many more related to the pain and struggle with teeth health, as a fan said, "girl, so true, i had it twice and id rather have another c-section than do this again...ive been putting off the other side for a few years now."

Another wrote, "Omg, I had that surgery too and it is a doozie!! I am happy to know you got through it and that smile is perfection!!😍."

Hopefully, people will listen to Gellar's good advice to avoid facing the same dental issues in the future.
