A Tsunami warning has been lifted after Japan was rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Saturday morning.
An official government website now shows only a “tsunami forecast” of minimal sea-level changes, CNN reported.
One meter waves were reported along the coast and 7,000 residents from the town of Watari were evacuated, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported.
The quake struck just off the coast of Ishinomaki, part of the Miyagi prefecture, in northeastern Japan. Video of the city shaking swiftly went viral on social media. Tremors from the quake were felt as far away as Tokyo — some 240 miles away.
Local firefights have reported no damage and further confirmed the area’s nuclear facilities remain secure.
The event struck just 65 miles away from Fukushima, where a 9.0 magnitude quake a decade ago led to a devastating tsunami and subsequent meltdown at the city’s nuclear power plant.
