Paleros

The earthly paradise in Etoloakarnania

The area offers a vast array of outdoor activities, from chilling on the beach to hiking up the Acarnanian mountains, the choices are endless. People will welcome you with their natural sense of hospitality, a virtue that has made Greece such a popular destination over the years. In ancient times, Zeus who was the God of hospitality, still live in their hearts.

Paleros cuisine is full of flavour and variety based on what is now known as the Mediterranean diet. Fresh fish from Paleros Bay, fruit and vegetables from villagers’ gardens, meat from animals raised in a natural environment and extra virgin olive oil make up this healthy diet.

Sailing enthusiasts can live a dream exploring the hidden gems of the Ionian islands, from the white sandy beaches of Lefkada, the famous Onassis island Scorpios to the home of Odysseus, Ithaca.

The azure, transparent waters of the Ionian Sea are a real attraction and the varied coastline boasts a host of sandy beaches and secluded pebbly coves. Most beaches can be reached by car and a walk, though a few are only accessed via sea, a good excuse for hiring a boat for a day or two.

The Paleros green, wooded interior is also very much worth exploring, with some  great walking paths and a scattering of unspoilt villages, whose way of life remains profoundly connected to ancient traditions and customs.
