Dahu

Magical goats found in France, Switzerland and Italy, these creatures are often found on mountainous terrain where their ability to alter the length of their legs by several inches helps them to climb to areas otherwise beyond their reach. In this way Dahu are often found in otherwise nigh-inaccessible areas, where their herders must Apparate to retrieve them. The upsides of this nonetheless outweigh the downsides: by climbing in this way Dahu can often avoid predators and find new forage that other creatures cannot find. Added to their general hardiness and the stubbornness common to many breeds of goat, they are reliable survivors and a commonly found domestic goat in magical populations throughout their range.

Dahu generally have two kids a time, though survival of both is not reliable. Nonetheless, the flesh of Dahu kids is considered a delicacy throughout the magical populations of France, Switzerland and Italy, and their hide is known to take enchantment - including stitched enchantment - with surprising ease. Due to the number of more isolated and mountainous pockets of magical society - which retreated of their own accord during the witch-hunts which immediately preceded the Statute of Secrecy - Dahu are a common sight in magical villages in these regions and their meat and milk are often on the menu.
