Q: I heard Missy Peregrym of “Rookie Blue” is making an outdoor adventure movie. What is it called, and when is it being released? — Scott Forman, Grand Junction, Colo.
A: “Backcountry” actually was released on March 20, with Peregrym and Jeff Roop (also an executive producer of the film) playing a city-bred couple whose wilderness excursion is made perilous by a stranger (“Haven’s” Eric Balfour) and a very fearsome bear. One of Peregrym’s “Rookie Blue” comrades furnished her with the project, since writer-director Adam MacDonald portrays Detective Steve Peck on the police drama.
Q: Lester Holt won’t continue co-hosting “Today” on weekends while he’s anchoring “NBC Nightly News” on weeknights, will he? — Donna Ellison, via e-mail
A: As indefatigable as Holt has seemed to be — especially as the Iron Man of NBC News in the days immediately after the start of Brian Williams’ suspension — it was realized that he really can’t do it all. Craig Melvin has been his principal “Today” substitute on recent weekends, and Holt even has had the occasional evening off from “Nightly News,” with “Today’s” Savannah Guthrie among those taking the anchor chair at such times.
Q: Is “Castle” off the air? — Rosemary Brunton, Bartlett, Ill.
A: ABC has preempted it several times in recent weeks for such programs as an encore of the “Secrets and Lies” pilot episode and the traditional “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” special, but the mystery remains very much a part of the network’s Monday lineup.
Q: I’ve been searching for the Barbra Streisand movie “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.” Will they ever show it on television? — Carla Manley, Deland, Fla.
A: “They” have, but not in a while. The 1970 screen version of the stage musical made the HBO and Cinemax rounds a couple of years ago ... and now, your best hope of seeing it on TV surely would be Turner Classic Movies. At this writing, no showings of it are scheduled there; however, Paramount Home Entertainment released it on DVD in 2005. Copies of it still can be found online for purchase.
Q: When will the DVD for Season 3 of “Dallas” be released? — Maggie DePue, Columbus, Ohio
A: Presuming you’re referring to the recent TNT version of the serial, that set has been available since the start of this year. If you have Seasons 1 and 2, that will complete your collection of the update, since the show wasn’t renewed for a Season 4 — despite Warner Horizon Television’s efforts to place it on another network.
You can see a couple of its cast members again soon, though. Jordana Brewster (alias the series’ Elena Ramos) rejoins her “The Fast and the Furious” castmates in “Furious 7,” arriving in theaters this Friday, April 3; and Juan Pablo Di Pace, who was her Season 3 love interest Nicolas Trevino, is among the stars of NBC’s series “A.D. The Bible Continues” starting April 5.
Q: In the movie “Superman Returns,” a bartender is played by an actor credited as Jack Larson. Is that the same Jack Larson who was Jimmy Olsen on the original “Superman” TV series? — Ron Cole, via e-mail
A: It is. Larson has had roles in other projects about the Man of Steel as well, doing guest parts on the shows “Superboy” and “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” (as “Old Jimmy Olsen” in the latter case).
Q: Will HBO’s “The Leftovers” be back? — Tim Edwards, Providence, R.I.
A: Yes, very possibly in mid-summer (HBO hadn’t yet confirmed a start date when this was written), and reportedly with some changes. One will be the setting, since the show will branch out beyond the fictional New York town of Mapleton and visit other locations where much of the population has mysteriously vanished. That will necessitate some cast changes, though Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Liv Tyler, Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon (“Gone Girl”) all are expected to be back.
